Low FPS? Turn off RTXDI first and compare the same scene. Strange colored lights with ray tracing enabled? Try turning ray tracing off; the developer advises against RT on GPUs with 12 GB VRAM or less.
Low FPS: start with RTXDI
Frozen Way’s September 3 PC troubleshooting post identifies RTXDI as especially demanding. This is the first setting to check if the game runs but feels consistently slow.
- Open the graphics settings and record your current RTXDI choice, resolution and other settings.
- Turn RTXDI off if it is enabled. Apply the change, following any restart prompt the game displays.
- Return to the same location and look in the same direction. Keep the resolution and other settings unchanged for this comparison.
- Compare responsiveness and image quality. If performance is still poor, continue with the GPU checks below.
The comparison procedure is editorial advice. We have not benchmarked an FPS increase or a best preset for individual graphics cards.
Colored lights or graphics artifacts
The developer links artifacts with ray tracing enabled to possible VRAM pressure, and advises against RT on cards with 12 GB VRAM or less. That includes a 12 GB card.
- Record whether ray tracing is enabled and where the artifact appears.
- Disable ray tracing and revisit the same spot.
- If the artifact remains, capture it and include your GPU model, VRAM and driver version in a bug report.
More than 12 GB VRAM is not a guarantee that RT will run well. A visual glitch by itself also does not prove that the GPU has run out of memory.
Still slow with RTXDI off?
- On a laptop, check that the game uses the dedicated GPU rather than integrated graphics. The developer points to Windows graphics settings or the GPU control panel.
- Check graphics-driver and Windows updates.
- Compare the complete minimum and recommended specifications, including the SSD requirement, rather than RAM alone.
Record your resolution, GPU and settings when comparing results. Requirements are not a 60 FPS guarantee, and this page does not supply an untested low/medium/high configuration.
A brief freeze is different from low FPS
If play is smooth between occasional hitches, check whether they coincide with saving. The autosave check includes manual-save precautions. For a game that closes or never reaches the menu, use startup crash help.
