Get your bearings first
Treat your first trip as reconnaissance. Notice the route back to your shelter, inspect unfamiliar life from a safe distance and follow the objective currently shown in your game. This is a suggested approach, not a verified quest-by-quest walkthrough.
Understand the research loop
- Observe and scan the life you encounter.
- Gather the samples or materials your current objective asks for.
- Return to your base to work with your discoveries.
- Use what you learn to prepare the next expedition.
When a gathering tool seems broken
A developer clarified that gathering tools such as the chisel, pruner and trowel must be equipped but do not need to be held. Approach a suitable target and use the interaction prompt; the developer’s PC example uses E. See the tool explanation.
